Two types of music that I just recently that I just recently realized I like are Spanish Rap and Indian Pop.
Football, football, football. I want football. Real football. And not this everyone gets a chance to play stuff. This isn’t t-ball.
Movie Review
Time to do some catching up. Bad movies first. Slowly getting better.
Zero of Five Stars
Super Troopers
Just to let you know. I did not have any goals or objectives to see the movies that are listed in this section. They just sort of happened. The movie “Super Troopers” is the epitome of bathroom humor. Its target audience seemed to be state troopers that have lots of time on their hands and haven’t grown up yet, not a very large audience. This low budget film must have surprised even the director when it made it into theaters. If you happened to catch the trailer it is based on only the first four minutes of the film. Most of the characters from the preview do not reappear until the credits. They must have known that most of the film was not worth being in.
One of Five Stars
Romy and Michele's High School Reunion
I just heard today that they were making either a TV series or made for TV film that is a prequel to this film. Now why anyone would want to watch that is beyond me. This movie had some interesting little jokes here and there but not enough to make up for the 20 minute dream sequence. There is no need for a dream sequence that is that long. Unless of course you don’t really have a working script and need to fill space. In this type of film a dream sequence is used to help the audience foreshadow the characters needs or desires. We already knew this. Give the audience some credit. Overall a slow script and very few original jokes.
Two and a half of Five Stars
The Time Machine
They lose some points for not having read the book. Apparently they were also too busy to do anything more then just skim the Cliff Notes. The special effect made this movie. It would also have been better to have seen it in the theaters. However, it was only worth the price of a rental. Orlando Jones, the Seven Up guy, makes another one of his cameos on this film. Haven’t seen him since. His interesting character was a part of the interesting new plot they created. It helped them bridge the gaps through time and wasn’t altogether a bad plot addition. From looking at the deleted scenes on the DVD it was clear that the original plan was to develop the main character before he traveled through time much more then they did. Instead time travel shapes him from a character with nothing as a main motivation. In the end the film leaves you with a feeling that you have already seen this film. There are to many obvious similarities to the remake of “Planet of the Apes”.
I’ll get to “Out of the Past” and “Criss Cross” later.
My fantasy football draft was this weekend. It seems to have went pretty good, even though I wasn’t able to make it there. I was at a wedding in Kent, MN. The reception was across the Red River in Wahpeton, ND. The church in Kent is very picturesque.
Last night when I was trying to go to sleep but there was this rhythmic thumping noise. You know, thump, thump, thump, thump, pause repeat. At first I though someone in the apartment was trying to hang a picture, but it just kept going. Eventually, I had to bang on the ceiling. In my five or so years of living in an apartment I have yet to have to resort to that. They stopped immediately.
So, I go out to my car this morning to find that the window was partially open all morning. Of course it had to be the same night we have a couple inches of rain.
Last night on my way home I saw a Sanyo blimp. I didn't know they had a blimp.
I'm a little tired today, but not necessarily a bad type of tired.
I need to catch-up on movie reviews sometime soon. I need to review “The Time Machine”, “Super Troopers”, “The Bourne Identity”, “Romy and Michele's High School Reunion” and a few others. I did not pick some of these films.
Tonight, however, I get to see some real films. I am seeing “Out of the Past” and “Criss Cross”. I need to see some film noir to cleanse my pallet. The Oak Street Cinema always has a cure for your movie blues.
So, I have the day off today. Why not? I tried to track down a particular stamp for the wedding invitations. It is not available anywhere. The guy at one the post offices said he tried to find it for someone else and it’s not anywhere in the state. I did however find the location of another Noodles and Co. and what might be a stadium seating theatre. So, after driving around I decided to call their 1-800 number and order the stamps. It shouldn’t take the post office to long to deliver stamps. It will take two to three weeks. How can it take the post office two to three weeks to deliver something they already have. They own the mail service. Oh, well. We might have to use the new love stamps that come out this Friday or Saturday. They look like an Andy Warhol painting. Not exactly the ideal stamp for a wedding invitation.
On the way in to work today I saw a big rainbow. I don't think I've seen one in quite a few years.
I need to remember to buy some V8, the vegetable kind. Not the stupid Fruit Splash kind.
I also need to remember to make my football pick list. Matt's going to need it for the draft. I've got about two weeks to put that together.
I started using the Crest White Strips last night. You have to wear them for 30 minutes twice a day. They taste funny and remind me of when I had braces. We’ll see if they actually work. Your teeth feel really smooth when you take them off.
So, were going to address the invitations tonight. They need to go out in the week or so. We had our engagement pictures taken last week. Oh, and we applied for our passports yesterday. We should have them in three to four weeks. I still need to book the trip. The price fluctuates up and down about 300 dollars.
We have a harassment-training seminar today at work. Looks like I’m finally going to learn how to harass people correctly.
